STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS 1. Print the Jonah pattern on transfer paper. Follow transfer paper instructions for transferring the pattern to white fabric. 2. Cut out each Jonah from the fabric along the outside line. 3. Now use the fabric Jonah to cut its backing from felt. 4. Put a thin line of glue around the edge of the fabric Jonah, except for the very top. Carefully match the edge of each cotton Jonah to the edge of its felt backing. Let dry. OR sew the fabric Jonah onto the back leaving an opening at the very top. 5. Fill each Jonah with dried beans, sand, or rice. Glue/sew the top opening shut. 6. Use the tail pattern to cut out the bottom of the milk jug. The opening will become the mouth of the whale, and the piece cut out will become the tailfin. (Be sure to cut the bottom out in one piece.) 7. Remove the screw top and make one slit through the middle. 8. Cut the slit in the tailfin on one side only. Bend it and slide it through the slit in the screw top. Glue or tape into place. Bend the fins slightly. 9. Spray paint the "whale" (with fin in place) with grey spray paint. Place it bottom down over a large can (like beef stew) on a newspaper in a well-ventilated space. Let dry thoroughly. 9. Use a permanent marker to trace around the mouth, draw in eyes, and add lines on the fin.
Jonah Game Put the whale on a table. Put a "player's chair" in front of the whale's mouth. Place a small weight in the whale to hold it in place. In each round, players try to toss 3 Jonahs into the whale's mouth. Players score 1 point for every Jonah that lands in the whale's mouth. The highest score wins. If there is a tie for highest score, the high scorers advance to a new round. Rounds continue until one player is the winner.
